The 17-days Langtang Helambu Trekking is easily reachable and perfect skip away destination from Kathmandu who wants to experience the wilderness of Himalayas, learn the Tamang culture and its ancient lineage. Throughout these 17 days, we will experience the splendid panoramic view of Mt. Langtang Lirung (7200m) and different mountains like Dorje Lakpa, Ganesh Himal, Gaurishankar, Langshisa Ri, and Guangcheng. The trek starts from Kathmandu and continues along Sybrubensi, Mundu and Kyanjin Gompa to reach Gosainkunda. Gosainkunda Lake is a holy place for Hindus, Buddhist, and Shamans as many believe it to have magical healing powers. On the way to Helambu, we pass through lush and ancient oak, rhododendron, bamboo, scented pine forests, alpine meadows, greenery landscapes, rugged rocks, and waterfalls. Beside natural scenic beauty, the trek also offers a close look at Hyolmo culture, ancient trading stations, and lifestyle of Helambu region. On our 7- hours’ drive to Sybrubensi from Kathmandu we get to enjoy the green scenery, scenic foothills, terraced fields, rivers, mountains, and villages while passing along the Trishuli River. We will rest on reaching Sybrubensi and we can also observe the lifestyle of the locals. Overnight in Sybrubensi.
We begin our first-day trek to Lama Hotel crossing the Bhote Koshi River and then following Langtang Khola. The trail takes us to the Bamboo (1960m) passing through the forested and rugged paths of oaks and rhododendron forests. The trail then ascends to Rimche (2400m) before reaching Lama Hotel. If we are lucky enough, we might encounter red pandas, monkeys, and Himalayan Black Bears. Overnight in Lama Hotel.
The trek route takes us through the wild forest of oaks, pines and lush rhododendron forests which lead us to Gumanechok at Ghoda Tabela. We are welcomed with the magnificent view of Langtang Lirung () and a U-shaped glacier that portrays the serenity of nature itself. On our way to Mundu, we pass through many Chortens, prayer walls, and Buddhist monasteries. Overnight in Mundu.
On we trek today that leads to Kyanjin Gompa, we pass through paths that offer scenic beauty, great landscape views, and cultural richness. We also come across a large Mani Wall with prayers scripted on it. Kyangin Gompa is a sacred monastery which is believed to be centuries old. The Gompa offers great views of the vistas of Langtang region. Overnight in Kyanjin Gompa.
Our trek today includes the visit to monasteries and cheese factory. We then make our way up the TsergoRi (5000m). The path to the top of Tserko Ri is a rather difficult one with numerous slippery trails and steeps along the way. We can enjoy the spectacular panoramic view of Dorje Lakpa (6990m.), Langtang Ri (6370m.), Langtang Lirung (7245m.), Langtang range, Kinshung, and Yansa Tsenji. We hike back to Kyanjin Gompa to rest following our successful acclimatization day. Overnight in Kyanjin Gompa.
We start to trek down to rejoin the trail to Lama Hotel enjoying the beautiful mountains, terrace land following back the same trail. The walk back to Lama Hotel is pleasant and goes through numerous small settlements and monasteries which reflect Buddhist culture and religious practices. Overnight in Lodge at Lama Hotel.
The trail to Thulo Syabru slightly descends at the beginning and then passes through bamboo and rhododendron forest up to our destination. On our way, we see a variety of wildlife like local wild boar, monkeys and different species of birds. We may also see Red Panda if we are fortunate enough. Thulo Syabru is a small beautiful village which preserves the ethnic culture, traditions, and customs of the people living in the region. Upon reaching we can get the splendid view of Ganesh Himal (7110m). Overnight in Thulo Syabru.
The trail leads us to Foprang Danda (3200m) and following our trail to Dursagang (2660m), we pass through several Chortens along with mesmerizing Langtang Himal and Ganesh Himal on the horizon. The path slightly ascends for some time then followed by the flat level path to the Shin Gompa. We can see the well managed local Cheese Factory and a Buddhist monastery as we get closer to Shin Gompa. Overnight at Shin Gompa.
We begin our trek through a rigged trail enjoying the panoramic views of mountains including Annapurna, Manaslu, Hiunchuli, Ganesh, and Langtang. After passing the few huts and crossing a small ridge we catch a glimpse of the first of the holy lake. Hindu legends have it that Gosainkunda Lake (4300m) has magical healing powers. According to the Hindu mythology, the lakes are believed to have formed when the god Shiva plunged his trident into the ground and in order to obtain water. The lake gracefully reflects the surrounding landscapes in a mesmerizing manner. Overnight in Gosainkunda.
The trail leaves the beautiful Gosainkunda moving towards the Laurebina Pass (4610m) where the Helambu region begins. We pass by many small lakes before reaching the pass. We continue to follow the rocky trail that takes us through the forest, villages where we get to experience the Hyolmo culture. Then the trail descends steeply to camp near Ghopte. Overnight at Lodge.
Our trek today continues with an ascent through the rhododendron forest until we reach Tharepati where the trail starts to descend. We walk on a path through pine and rhododendron forests with amazing views of Helambu Valley and Jugal Himal. Our walk takes us to Malachi Gaon, which is a wonderful village surrounded by the lush forests and inhabited by Hyolmo and Sherpa people. Overnight in Melamchi Gaon.
The trail continues to descend until we cross the Melamchi Stream. The path is relatively easier and takes us through the beautiful grassy path which sonorous chirpings of a variety of birds throughout the journey. We follow our trail up to Tarkeghyang which is a beautiful Sherpa Village with their old settlements and monasteries. Overnight Tarkeghyang.
The trail gets easier as we move through the flat land with amazing mix forest. We come to the beautiful villages of Helambu region on our way. Sermathang is also one of the beautiful Sherpa villages where we can visit the ancient Buddhist monasteries and get a view of the splendid Jugal Himal Range from the north face of the village. Today we have a short trek to Melamchi Bazar through meadows, terraced farms and cultivated fields. On our way, we come across some old villages with unique traditions of their own. After reaching Melamchi Bazar, we drive back to Kathmandu enjoying the scenic view.
You can spend the by shopping for souvenirs and gifts in the marketplaces or exploring the cultural and religious sites around the city. The city is oddly entertaining and houses the number of tourist attractions. Later in the evening, we will celebrate the successful completion of our trek.
