Langtang / Tamang Heritage Trail presents a magnificent blend of proximity to nature and the opportunity to learn about the Tamang culture, traditions, and practices. The trek covers the features of the Langtang valley which are incredibly enthralling in an aspect that the trail, although easy enough, covers a broad range of breath-taking spectacles that will forever be a part of your memory to excite you to undertake the journey repeatedly. The trek will acquaint you with the Tamang lifestyle, their culture, traditions under the shadow of the majestic Himalayas.
The 15-day Langtang / Tamang Heritage Trek is perfect short trek away from the capital to enjoy the wilderness amid the curiously exotic environment and experience the magnificence of beautiful landscapes, snow-capped mountains, meadows and ancient lifestyles of Tamang. Our journey begins from Kathmandu, a home to the multitude of cultures and ancient history and takes us to Thuman following a path through Sybrubensi, Gatlang, and Tatopani. The journey ahead promises an awe-inspiring view of Langtang Himalayan Ranges including Langtang Lirung (7227m), Langtang II 6596m, Dorje Lakpa (6966m), Yubra (6264m) and Jugal Himal (6535m). As the Tamang heritage trail is culturally rich, the main attraction of the trek is to explore the traditional Tamang villages populated by the local Tamang people and to learn their lifestyle. The trek also combines the scenery view of Chortens, local fort, Buddhist monasteries and unique architectures of Tamang homes. The trek continues as we stride through the dense rhododendron and oak forests where we might get a chance to see the various wild animals like bears, snow leopard, red panda, and musk deer. The trek also offers a natural hot spring at Tatopani. All in all, the Langtang / Tamang Heritage Trail is an exciting trek to see the grandeur of the Himalayas combining it with the traditional lifestyle of Tamang.

Kathmandu houses great richness in terms of cultural rituals, practices, and architecture, all of which can be seen during our visit to some historical sites of Kathmandu that includes Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath, Boudhanath, Patan and Kathmandu Durbar Square as time permits. We will leave for Sybrubensi early in the morning enjoying the beauty of nature including mountains, river streams, and beautiful greenery landscapes on our way. The drive will take us through the Trishuli Bazaar and the winding roads offer the major treat to feast our eyes with great natural wealth. Overnight in Sybrubensi.
We trek through a steep trail passing Goljang Village enjoying the amazing view of Ganesh Himal (7422m), Gosainkunda range, Langtang Lirung (7227m) and many other mountains. As we walk to our destination for the day, we go through tiny Tamang settlements and get a glimpse of their lifestyle. Gatlang is a small Tamang Village which is located on a hillside and has traditional houses reflecting their culture and lifestyle. Overnight in Gatlang.
We continue our trek to Tatopani after having breakfast. The magnificent views of the Himalayas along with the scenery of Chortens and Mani wall are prevalent during our walk towards Tatopani. We walk past Thangbuchet and Chilime Hydropower dam before reaching Tatopani. Tatopani is popular for taking a relaxing bath in the natural hot spring. It is also believed that the water from the natural hot spring relieves you of aches and pains Overnight in Tatopani.
Today we trek through the alpine forest to reach small Tamang village of Brimdag before reaching Nagthali (3165m) viewpoint where we house mesmerizing views of Kerung Himal, Ganesh Himal, and Langtang Lirung. We continue our trail to Thuman, a Tibetan influenced Tamang Village where we can experience the unique and great culture. The village is a home to monasteries and lovely wood architecture. We leave for Briddim, another Tibetan influenced village full of Tamang people trekking through the rhododendron forest from Thuman via Timure. We get to visit the Dukchu Monastery. Briddim is popular for its homestay culture where houses are built up of old stones. Homestay is a practice where the tourists stay in the homes of the locals and enjoy their food, lifestyle and tender hospitality. Overnight in Briddim.
We follow our trail that ascends to the Khanjum Village and continue to trek for 5-6 hrs before reaching Sherpa Gaon passing prayers flag, Chortens and amazing landscape beauty. Upon reaching Sherpa Gaon we get to see various Himalayan ranges in the horizon. The village is known for its cultural practices and rituals massively reflecting Buddhist and Tibetan heritage. We trek further through rhododendron forest enjoying the view of Langtang Lirung. We continue to climb up towards steep trail passing Gumanechok and Ghoda Tabela. We come across the beautiful valley with yaks grazing on pasturelands and view of snow-capped mountains at back. We also pass by prayer wheels and Mani walls to finally reach Langtang village. We continue on our journey as we walk across numerous monasteries and yak pastures. We pass through small villages, Chortens and largest Mani wall built with prayers carved in stone before reaching Kyanjin Gompa. The villages also produce yak cheese and we can take a shortstop to taste the locally produced cheese. Kyangin Gompa is an ancient Buddhist monastery surrounded by Himalayan Range. Overnight in Kyanjin Gompa.
We rest and acclimatize ourselves to the high altitude. We climb up the Tserko Ri(4984m) to get the most spectacular and mesmerizing panoramic view of mountains like Langtang Lirung(7227m), Dorje Lakpa (6966m), Yubra (6264m), Langtang I (6596m) and other mountain ranges. The difficult walk up the peak is instantly relieved after the cameo of the scenic pleasure from the top of the peak. After returning back from Tserko Ri, we will go to visit a cheese factory, Buddhist shrines or take a little walk to moraine to see the glaciers and icefalls. Overnight in Kyanjin Gompa.
We trek back to the Lama Hotel after walking for about 5-6 hrs through dense forest and villages enjoying the view of Langtang valley surrounded by snow-capped mountains and grassy meadows. On our way back to the Lama Hotel, we get to see the culture and religious lineage of the locals residing in the area. Overnight in Lama Hotel.
We descend towards the Thulo Syabru where we walk through dense forests to reach Pairo. As we continue our walk through the Bamboo village, we will get to a landslide-prone site. We trek for a while to finally reach Thulo Syabru as we bid farewell to the Langtang region and its beauty. Overnight in Thulo Syabru.
Trek to Dhunche will be the last trek of our journey. It is a small town of a Rasuwa District. We hike alongside the bank of the river enjoying the beautiful landscapes. We pass through numerous human settlements and villages like Deurali and Dimsa. We take an overdue rest to lay our tired body and prepare for our drive back to Kathmandu. Overnight in Dhunche.
We leave Dhunche for Kathmandu on a bus. After 5-6hour drive, we reach the
Kathmandu. We will drive through green hills on winding roads and the return trip is sure to provide great landscape views. Overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.
Today will be a day to explore some more of Kathmandu and shop around the city. You can shop for gifts and souvenirs in the local marketplaces. We will host a Farewell Cultural Dinner in the evening to bid you goodbye.
